My healthy life journey: what needs to be on your grocery list!

Sunday, a day of rest, spending time with loved ones, and preparing for the new week ahead.  But, if you're me, in addition to all of those things, it's also the day you go to the grocery store.  A place I sometimes hate to go to and other times I enjoy.  
I started my journey of living a healthy lifestyle back in November and I've been doing rather well.  But, the last two weeks I haven't been as good as I want to be in the kitchen.  So, to motivate myself and hopefully you as well, I wanted to share some of my favorite items to pick up at the grocery store that are easy and simple.  Here's what's on my weekly grocery list that I think everyone should try and that I'll be buying today!

Breakfast items:

  • Maple Brown Sugar "Lower Sugar" Instant Oatmeal (store brand or quaker)
  • Natural Jif Peanut Butter "Lower Sodium"
  • Almond Milk (I get Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Unsweetened)
----->These three items I use almost every morning together as my breakfast.  It takes me less than 5 minutes to put this together.  I personally like to add peanut butter to my oatmeal, it gives it a better taste, I only add a small bit, you don't need much.  
  • Carton Egg Whites
  • Turkey Bacon (I like the ButterBall brand in lower sodium)
  • Salsa
----->I trade these out every other day. So if Monday was turkey bacon, Tuesday would be egg whites.  I prefer to cook my turkey bacon in a skillet, but on school mornings ya best believe I zap those in the microwave, still good in my opinion.  I also "have" to add salsa to my egg whites.  They are rather bland with just pepper, so I put salsa on top and it makes a world of difference. (Did I use that reference right? I hope so!)

Snacks

  • bagged Fuji Apples (it comes with like 10ish apples and they are small so I eat one every day during my 2nd core)
  • Rice Cakes (I prefer the caramel and chocolate ones, and of course, I add peanut butter to it hehe)
  • Greek Yogurt (I get the Dannon Oikos Triple Zero Greek Nonfat)
  • Nature Valley Bars (I like the peanut ones, surprise surprise!  But I only eat these 1-2 times a week since it has added sugars)

Lunch/Dinner

  • Chicken Chicken and more Chicken.  I pretty much eat chicken every day for lunch and sometimes dinner.  I cook it several ways.  I season it with Cavenders All Purpose Greek Seasoning, one of my roommates in college introduced me to it and I've used it ever since.  It looks like this.
    I also marinate chicken in Italian Dressing and occasionally will do bbq chicken.
  • Sweet Potato (with some brown sugar)
  • Broccoli (steam-fresh)
  • Corn (steam-fresh)
  • Black Beans
  • Deli Turkey (The kind that its sliced from the Deli at Food Lion or Harris Teeter)
  • Deli Provolone Cheese (I do cheese and turkey roll ups when I get tired of chicken)

That's basically it y'all.  It does get dull but I've found that this works well for my body and I do enjoy what I'm eating.  In the summer when more vegetables are in season around here, I love to get squash, green beans, and  zucchini from my grandparents garden.

My Current Skincare Routine & Fav Products

Happy day my loves!

I wanted to share my current nighttime skincare routine along with my favorite products as of late.  I would classify my skin as dry, I used to as a child, and occasionally now, still get eczema.  Therefore, moisturizing is a key priority for me.  Progress pictures for my eye cream are at the bottom!
**Pro Tip: I recently learned a tip from a model I follow that says you should apply your facial products according to consistency, so lightest to thickest!

How To: Get Into Reading

Hi friends, happy Sunday!  It's been quite the eventful day here, I woke up around 7ish to the power going out due to the ice.  I ended up walking over to my grandparents house across the road to get my morning coffee and oatmeal since they have a generator.  It thankfully returned around 11:30, praise to those Duke Power workers!  Then, we had a birthday lunch for my papa, mom cooked some banging homemade lasagna.  I did myself a Rebecca Louise HIIT workout, washed some clothes, and now here I am writing to all of you!

I wanted to talk about reading, one of my favorite hobbies.  I used to despise it in elementary school and early middle school, but in 7th grade I got a book for Christmas and ever since I have loved to read.  I'm a HUGE believer in the saying, "If you don't like to read, you haven't found the right book."

I've currently read 2 books so far for 2019 that I'd easily recommend to y'all (below).  I loved them both.  My 2019 book challenge is to read 25 books this year, but I hope I read more than that, it's a little more difficult to make the time during the school year but I'm trying.

A couple of tips I have for those of you who either 
A. Don't like to read or B. Want to read more.

1.  Find a friend/friends who like to read! 

Shoutout to my besties Lizzie and Hayley who have shared books with me and I with them.  It's so much more fun to read when you can share books with someone else who likes the same thing, and can broaden your horizons on books you typically wouldn't read.

2. Make a Good Reads Account

I just did this last weekend and I LOVE IT!  I'm able to connect with my friends online about books we've read, are currently reading, and want to read.  I created my profile based on what I've read since I graduated college.  It's super easy to type in a book, add it, then rate it!  I love being able to rate what I've read, and see what my friends rate the books they've read.  For example, I saw Liz had given a book a good rating, so I clicked on it, read the synopsis and decided to add it to my "want to read" shelf.  Here's my profile if you want to connect with me!

3. Follow Reese Witherspoons Book Club!

4. Google

Quite possibly the greatest invention on the internet.  I google stuff probably at least 10 times a day.  So google whatever you're interested in.   Example, if you're in your 20s, you could google books every 20 something should read.   Here's one I found  Or, if you're into health, google health books, fashion, top fashion books.  The list is endless!

How to: Start the New Year Healthy

Happy New Year Y'all!
I'm beyond excited to kick off 2019 and make it better than last year.  2018 was one of the most difficult years I've experienced, (next to 2010/2011, if ya know ya know) but I'm ready to move forward and conquer some of the goals I've set for myself.   I personally do not believe in resolutions, but I definitely believe in goals!  One goal on my list, and I'm sure on many others as well, is health.

I am in no way, shape, or form, a go to health person.  However, I do have several tips and tricks that work well for me to achieve my fitness/health goals, that I think could help you too!

Food/Drink


  • Drink Water:  The first thing I do in the morning is down a glass of H20.  If you're feeling frisky, add some apple cider vinegar to it ;) But ya have to cut the soda out people.  I promise it's possible.  I went from drinking 2 Mountain Dews a day in high school, to 1 a day in college, to hardly any since my senior year of college, which was 3 years ago.  I occasionally pop one open when I'm craving that fizz but I cant even finish a whole can anymore because it's now too sweet for me.
