Local Food Spot: Iron Hen Cafe + other favs

Local Food: Iron Hen Cafe

Evening peeps!  I'm coming to ya with a quick little write about a new food venture for me today.

One of my dear old friends, Bess, and I decided to meet up for brunch to catch up.  I had a workout class this morning off of Westover Terrace, due to proximity she suggested that we meet at the Iron Hen Cafe.  I had never been before, so I was eager to test it out.

We opted to eat breakfast dishes, but after scanning the menu I'll definitely be back to try their lunch and supper.  I chose to order the Iron Hen Scramble, which is 2 eggs scrambled with bacon, sausage, and home fries.  It also came with a side of fruit.  I ate it all!  It was yummy in my tummy.

One thing I've been noticing in myself over the last couple of years is that I'm tending to stay away from chain restaurants (except Chickfila duh) and indulging in local restaurants that have distinctive atmospheres and food.  I find my experience at local spots to be a bit more unique, something you don't find as much at chains.

Iron Hen is located right off of Wendover East (908 Cridland Rd), I've linked their menu below if you're interested!

Below I'm also listing some of my favorite local spots in Greensboro.

Hops Burger Bar
Lindley Park Filling Station
Bites and Pints
Print Works Bistro
Sticks and Stones
M'Couls Public House

Send me your food recommendations!  Jake and I are always excited to try new places.

Little goodies I've been loving

Hi friends!
Long time, no talk.  The beginning of the school year always throws me for a loop and I lose touch with things I enjoy.  It's year four of teaching and you'd think I'd somehow manage to have it together by now, but no 😅  However, it's officially fall, and it's October, one of my favorite months of the year.  That alone inspires me to write and share with y'all. I thought for this evening I'd share some of my favorite things as of late!

This picture brings my heart joy, Cackie and I rarely take a picture together.  Therefore, when the opportunity presented itself this weekend I took it!  I think I'm her mini me, I mean our names are even the same hehe
(keep scrolling for actual things)

1.  Dr. Brandt microdermabrasion
This stuff is wonderful, it's an exfoliator that always leaves my skin soft, and polished.  It is pricey, however, for me it lasted a year and a half.  I feel if a product lasts me that long, it's worth the money.  I also do not pay full price for it, the first time I bought it, I did it in late Nov./ early Dec., when Sephora offers 15% off for VIB.  I just recently bought my second bottle, when Sephora offered 15% off in late August for the end of the summer sale.  So if you're looking for a new exfoliator, this is my number 1 recommendation!  It'd be a great Christmas present 😊

2.  Olehenriksen Banana Bright Eye Creme
I bought this in December last year, and it lasted until August this year, so 8 months worth of product for me, and then I bought it again when it ran out in August!  This stuff works pretty well, there's a reason it's a bestseller at Sephora (also reasonably priced).  I took progression pics I shared in an earlier blogpost that show the transformation.  I'm now scared to stop using it lol

3. Anything Drunk Elephant
Jake got me a set of all of the 'littles' for Christmas, which is basically the trial sizes of their most popular products. I loved them all, they are fabulous!  However, they are too pricey for me to consistently buy, however, I did buy a 2 pack of their day serum after I ran out because I liked it so much.  I think I'll potentially buy the standard size for myself when Sephora does their sale around Christmas.  My favorite thing was the C-Firma Vitamin C Day Serum, it won an Allure best of beauty award.

4. Invisalign:
If you're wanting to correct your teeth, this stuff works!  Ya just need a little dedication to wearing them.  I had braces in middle school and high school, but my wisdom teeth came in and made my bottom teeth crooked.  So last year in the summer of 2018 I had my wisdom teeth removed, and then this summer I started Invisalign.  I had to wear them about 16 weeks, and I have to wear them an additional 2-4 more and then I'll be finished.  I thought they'd be uber noticeable and make me sound funny when I talk, but it's actually fine, and they hardly hurt when you put in a new set. When I'm finished I'll get a permanent retainer so I'll never have to worry about wearing a retainer ever again, praise! So if you're on the fence I do recommend them as an adult, not for children!  I can't tell you how many times I've misplaced them 😅

5. The Beach Club by Elin Hilderbrand
I'm a devoted reader to all of Elin Hilderbrands Nantucket beach reads, but this was one of my top 3 by her.  I haven't read a book that quick in awhile. 10/10 recommend.  I'm currently reading "Saving Grace" by Jane Green.

I'll wrap it out and stop at 5 things!  Let me know some of your favorite things that I should try out.

BohoBlu Summer Round Up

Hi friends!

Today I wanted to give you a round up of some BohoBlu pieces I either personally own or tried on and loved!  I currently model at BohoBlu and get the opportunity to try on many clothes before I purchase them, yet when I go into the store to get them, I still try them on again...weird I know (gotta make sure it's right lol).  Their summer clothes are coming to an end and fall stuff is beginning to arrive, meaning some discounts!  Without further ado, here are some pieces I'm loving

Clarabelle Top
Mom and I bought this to share because it makes a great work top while it's still hot in August and September.  She even took it to Vegas with her!  Was $34 now $26!

Gwendolyn Top
I personally do not own this one, but I did enjoy wearing it while we took pictures.  I think it's fun for a flirty evening out on a date with your boo.  Skinny dark wash jeans, a pair of strappy heels and you're ready!  Was $25 now $19

Everly Romper
This is so comfy!! I love this romper y'all.  It's easy to throw on and look cute and casual.  I'd wear it traveling or to go to town in to run errands. Was $40 now $30
Tay Shrop you need this ;)

Elisha Top
When I initially put this on, I thought "perfect work top!" It has thick enough straps to pass school dress code lol and it's fun.  I haven't decided if I'm going to buy it yet or not, it's on my watch list.  Should I? Yes or No.  Let me know in the comments. Was $35 now $26

Yasmin Top
I've been eyeing this top!  Animal print is in, and this top does a good job giving me that vibe.  It's versatile enough to wear to work or out at night.
Currently $35

Kristine Top
Mom and I bought this one as well to wear to work for the warmer months.  I'd wear it with my black dress pants, and flats to teach in as I think it has a professional look to it with the collar. Throw a pretty cardigan on in the fall to go with it as well.  I think that back of it is neat too.
Was $30 now $23

Boho did not ask me to do this, it just came to my mind as I was looking at their site.  I would never post something if I didn't personally own it or like it.  I simply thought of all of the clothes I get to see and try on and it made me want to share the love with all of you.

If you liked this and want to see more let me know!  I had fun writing it.

Vegas Travel Guide!

Hi friends!
After spending the weekend in Vegas with Jake I wanted to share a few things I loved, wish I would have done/known, and hope to do next time.

Travel Accommodations:

I personally didn't know where I would be staying, Jake wanted to surprise me, we stayed at The Venetian, it was beautiful!!!!  However, I did get to pick our flights.  Thing to note, Vegas is 3 hours behind us, so I definitely recommend getting an early flight there, ours left at 7 am out of GSO and we landed at 10:54.  It basically gave us almost an entire day in Vegas. But.....prepare to be EXHAUSTED.  I was almost awake for 22 hours.  Also, do not take a taxi, they charge out the wazzo, but they are the first thing you see when you exit the airport.  Uber and Lyft are on a different floor, and are quite literally half the cost.  Trust me. (Fun fact, 2 Chainz was on our flight home!)
