Year in Review

Wow, all I can think is WOW.

Y'all the biggest year of my life has come to an end already!  I swear, each passing year goes by faster and faster.  I guess that's apart of growing up and older.  As I look back at 2016 I'm going to deem it, "The Year of Big Events".

I started 2016 a little peeved that I had to go back to college over a week early to student teach when everyone else got to stay home.  NOT FAIR! But I quickly realized that even though it was an extremely challenging transition (by that I mean having to actually get up at 7 to work without pay) lol, it proved to be very rewarding.  Student teaching was hard but an awesome experience, it definitely helped me prepare for August a little better.
***FYI best student teaching moment... Finding "F*** u Ms. P" written on the wall, gotta love kids right? lol

Good news y'all...I didn't give a speech at this years graduation (Shoutout to my class of 2012) lol, a relief right? I don't think UNCC could have handled that! But hey, I'm pretty pumped.  I went to a university, did my time in 4 years and got my degree!  Time to adult they said, it won't be too hard they said...wrong! After Graduation, I kid you not, while a lot of things stay the same, a lot changes as well.  Like...

Event 3: MOVING

Oh yes, you guessed it, I moved back home.  By home, I literally mean with my mom.  But ya know what, she's fab and us "rooming" together has been surprisingly great and easy.  Plus, this is the first time I've actually lived in my house.  My mom built her house the year I graduated high school and every year since then I've been in college, so I'm finally getting to enjoy my room and my space.  Which did I mention that if you saw my room, you'd truly understand why I love staying here.  I've been told the past couple of years, live at home as long as you can, and you should!  Don't get me wrong, I'd love to live by myself sometimes, but the amount of money you can save for your future makes it totally worth it.  And lets be honest, I majored in Education...Teachers don't make much, I'll take all the help I can get!

Bring on the excitement of getting your degree, but no one talked about the stress of trying to find a job!!  After several interviews at schools, I scored one!  I got a job outside of my comfort zone, I majored in Middle Grades Education, but I got a job as a 9th grade Math teacher.  Talk about DIFFICULT.  I have never met a more challenging, mind boggling, soul searching, rewarding task in the world.  You think I'm kidding? Please come teach my children one day.  Teaching has proved to be nothing like I ever imagined, which is funny since I thought I knew it all because both of my parents were teachers.  Boy was I wrong.  Yet, with that being said, yes I still sometimes want to quit, but at the end of the day I love those children.

The icing to top this year of events cake is my first big girl purchase.  I decided that while I loved and adored good ole Z, it was time to let her go.  She represented my late high school year, all of my years of college and I needed to find a more appropriate adult car to suit the needs of my new life.  Therefore, the search for a new car ensued.  I of course enlisted car enthusiast Jake for help.  I needed a somewhat bigger car.  However, ya girl isn't driving a car that's no fun.  After a few months of searching and constantly changing my mind, Jake sent me a pic of a Lexus one day and I was sold!  I instantly began the search to find this car and after a couple of weeks, I did and it was mine!  Unfortunately I now have monthly payments but it was completely worth it because I'm OBSESSED and IN LOVE with my new baby!

2016 was my year of big events, now I can't wait to see what 2017 has in store for me.  I hope everyone has a safe New Years Eve and a Happy New Year! Be good my friends ;)

Anyone have any new years resolutions they wanna share? Leave em in the comments!

Target & HomeGoods Haul

I cannot believe 2016 is almost over, each year continues to fly by quicker than the one before ugh!  However, with the start of a new year upon us, it's time to get busy and organize your space.  I always find that if something has a particular place, you can keep you space neater and cleaner. To get myself into gear I decided to organize some of my stuff that doesn't quite have a place in my room, such as mail, and jewelry.  I hit up Target and HomeGoods to get some inspiration and ended up with these lovely treats!  In case you can't tell I'm going through a strong obsession of white/gold, it's just so pretty I can't help myself!

Below you will see the images before and after I've put them to use.  However, you can't purchase HomeGoods items online so they aren't directly linked like target purchases.

Christmas Wrap Up!

Hello my sweets!  I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas!

Since yesterday was recovery day for me, today I decided I'd do a recap of my Christmas and hopefully hear about some of yours as well.  I find it so fascinating to find out what other families do for the holidays!

My family has had the same Christmas tradition for as long as I remember.  On Christmas Eve we spend time, eat dinner, and exchange gifts with my dads side of the family.  On Christmas day we go to Cackies to eat lunch, and exchange gifts with moms side of the family.  My family mostly gives money over presents, what does your family do? Vote in my poll!

This year on Christmas Eve, we ate dinner at my Uncle Georges.  His wife Diane cooked a killer meal, she never disappoints!  We had prime rib and twice baked potatoes, can we say YUM?!  Not to mention ole Georgie Porgie and Diane deliver on the gifts every year, hello Sephora gift card can't wait to use you ;)

Now my dad usually does his standard gift of a check made out to yours truly, but this year I sent him links in an email to a couple of things I wanted (you do whatcha gotta do lol).  So from my dad I got the gorgeous feely good white Patagonia Vest, and a Kendra Scott cuff to match my necklace!

On Christmas day my mom and I got a wonderful treat! Since my parents are divorced, Jared (my brother) always spends Christmas Eve night with dad, and I stay with Mom.  Anyways, we have to be at Cackies by 11:30 and Jared rolls up at like 10:45 every year so we don't really have family time just the three of us before we connect with the whole family.  However, Christmas morning Jared showed up at 8:30 and we actually got to hangout for a little while!  It was fab!

Santa (hi darcy, love you!) was very generous this year, while I knew most of what I was getting, I got two great surprises! Santa got me a year subscription to Birchbox and one of those polaroid Instax cameras!  If you don't know what Birchbox is, I linked the word to its site, I think it's super cool!  As for the camera, I'm trying to think of a fun way to display the pictures, if ya have any ideas throw em this way please!
Christmas at Cackies was a little different this year because we were missing some family, nevertheless, Cackie still whipped up some banging food (homegirl was sick and still cooked Christmas lunch, I dub her super grandma) that we all enjoyed!  At Cackies we tend to have around 19 people there but this year we had 14. (How many people are at your Christmas?? Let me know in the comments!)

I also spend time with Jakes family on Christmas but I just wanted to share my personal traditions today!  Now, speaking of Jake, can I brag just for a sec? Like pretty please...because that guy is awesome! He knows everything I like and always picks me out the best presents. I never, and I mean never have a clue what I'm getting from him for my bday or Christmas, it's always a complete surprise.  This year he got me a new Tory Burch purse that is to die for, omg y'all it's so pretty that it makes me feel pretty carrying it lol, anyone else ever feel that way about an accessory?!  I had told him back in the summer that I wanted one and when he went to Vegas he remembered and picked this up! SWOON!

Well, I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas! Let me know your Christmas traditions in the comments below :)

Get Ready with Me || Holiday Edition

IT'S CHRISTMAS BREAK!!! Praise Jesus Hallelujah!

On the first day of Christmas, I'm showing you...a get ready with meeeee ! (my own rendition of "On the First Day of Christmas")

Finally being on break means I actually have time to put a concerted effort in getting ready for the holidays and a special date night outfit/makeup look.  Tonight Jake and I are starting a new tradition, a holiday dinner together before Christmas!  Since the Cheesecake Factory just opened up we've decided to make it our first stop.  Without further ado, lets get ready ;)

  1. I almost always do make up before hair, no rhyme or reason to it, it's simply what I've always done.  I start my makeup routine by first applying my current foundation, which is the make-up forever ultra hd foundation.  LOVE this stuff you guys.  Absolutely no cakeiness to it (is that a word lol?), and it barely looks like you have anything on.
  2. I then set my foundation with the Laura Mercier Translucent Powder. 10/10 recommend.
  3. Since it is winter and I'm definitely paler, I apply Too Faced Soleil Matte Bronzer in Chocolate all over my face to give it a nice glow.  Y'all I kid you not, this stuff literally smells like hot cocoa.  I probably give it a sniff every time before I put it on because it smells so good!!!
  4. I apply blush next to the apples of my cheeks.  I've been using THIS blush for awhile now and I really want to try a Nars blush...any recommendations ?? Throw em this way in the comments please!!
  5. After this I put some highlighter above my blush.  I've been using the top row of Shimmer Strips by Physicians Formula for awhile now.   Let me know in the comments if you have a highlighter you would recommend me.  I've considered the glow kit but I'm not sure.

  1. Now it's time for the eyes, this is my favorite part.  What is that quote I once saw?? I think it's "Your eyes are the window to your soul."  Anyways today I'm choosing to use my Naked 2 palette.  (This was actually my first official Sephora purchase ever!)
  2. Next I go in with THIS eyeliner to line the inside top of my eyes.
  3. I then will apply THIS mascara.  It does a pretty good job, however I won't be repurchasing this one.  It's a pain in the a** to remove.  I'm just waiting until Christmas day when I get a new tube of Better than Sex! WOOHOO holy grail y'all.  If you haven't tried it, you MUST!
  4.  The last part to the eyes is putting on my absolute favorite liquid liner.  Kat Von D tattoo liner is FAB.  It literally stays on all night with zero smudges.  Heck, I've even accidentally fell asleep wearing it and when I woke up the next morning it still looked the exact same as to when I applied it the night before. 10/10 for sure!
  5. Now for the finale, the eyebrows.  I ran out of my Anastasia brow pencil a couple of weeks ago and had this one lying around that I got for free.  It works pretty well.

  1. For tonight I'm daring to be bold lol.  I've decided to use my Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella. (Cruella Deville, if she doesn't scare you no evil thing will hehe.  Can I get a throwback to 101 Dalmatians)

I'm keeping my hair normal today, which normal for me is straight.  However, with it being cold outside my hair is prone to breakage, and losing its moisture.  Therefore, I apply a small amount of the Garnier Marvelous Oil to the lengths and ends of my hair to keep it shiny and not dry. (You can buy this from the link I've posted or at CVS and Walgreens) I also, spray some hairspray in my hair before I leave or else I'm static central and I despise that feeling!

Skirt: Banana Republic (I've had this for ages but here is a similar one) It's on sale!
Shirt: Francescas
Shoes: Black Booties from DSW--Similar here
Stockings: I grabbed these at Fiore in Charlotte, but it's closed now. You can find cute pairs like this at most Boutiques, along with Francescas and Altar'd State.

Mens Stocking Stuffers

One week until Christmas...

Is this real life?  It is literally one week until Christmas y'all!!! Where on earth has the time gone?  With that being said, I've decided to post an easy guide of potential stocking stuffers for the man in your life. Most everything will be linked throughout the post.

1.  Dress Socks

This year I got my guy two pairs of dress socks to wear with his nicer shoes.  Although I may have caved and already given him one pair...oops! Insert the monkey covering its eyes emoji. (I wasn't sure if he'd like the pattern or not)  I think fun dress socks make an outfit more exciting for a man.  Who wants bland socks for their guy? (NOT ME!) Below are the two pairs I purchased, although the argyle pattern I chose is out of stock.

2.  A gift card

As I said in my girls gift guide,  who doesn't love a gift card to their favorite place?  They will go there regardless, so why not treat em for a couple of trips.  This year and last year, I got Jake a Chickfila gift card because he is OBSESSED.  Like on an unhealthy level lol.  I bet he goes to Chickfila at least two times a week.  Thus, the best gift card for him.  However, another option for your man could be a Darden gift card, because they have 6 restaurants represented on them that you can choose from.  These can easily be purchased at Walgreens, CVS, Walmart or the actual restaurant.

3.  Gum

I think this one speaks for itself.  Most everyone loves to chew gum, whether it's the fixation, flavor, or because they have bad breath.  Each year I put this in the stocking because it's useful and practical, and lets be honest, if I'm kissing my man, I want him to have nice smelling breath!  I usually get the three pack of orbit.  SO easy to find at any drugstore or connivence store.

4.  Cologne

While this is a pricier option for a stocking stuffer, I definitely think it's worth it.  A benefit to you and your man.  He feels good because he has a nice scent and you get the pleasure of
a. picking out something you want him to smell like, and
b. enjoying the scent when you're with him.
A win win y'all!  A few of my favorites are Ralph Lauren: Polo Double Black, Giorgio Armani: Acqua Di Gio and Jean Paul Gaultier: Le Male (I call this the naked man because of the packaging)  All of these smell amazing to me personally and all have different retail prices.  However, I don't think you could go wrong with either of these 3 options!

I hope this helped y'all!  If you think none of these would suit your guy then here are a couple more ideas for you!
  1.  Build your own 6-pack at Harris Teeter or Total Wine if he's into beer!
  2. A beard trimmer.  I personally love some scruff but it needs to be maintained
  3. A pocket knife
  4. A pretty tie or bow tie if he works in an office environment
  5. Sunglasses (can't go wrong with oakleys or raybans)!

Running of the Balls 5k!

Ah the infamous Sunday blues have hit y'all.  Anyone else find it somewhat harder to enjoy a Sunday because you don't want to go to work on Monday?

Anyways, I just wanted to share a recap of my Saturday!  For those of you in NC, there is an annual 5k event every December in Greensboro NC called The Running of the Balls.  In this beautiful neighborhood called Sunset Hills, almost all residents hang those cool light up ornament balls in the trees outside of their homes.  It's pretty awesome.

My friend Resa and I decided this year we would participate.  We bought our spots back in September because they sell out quickly due to trying to keep it somewhat intimate.  Since this race is for fun and to get everyone in the holiday spirit, they have it where you can register as a runner or a walker.  This year Resa and I decided to be walkers because we wanted to be able to take in all of the Christmas decor, however, next year we will def be runners.

It was such an exciting event, they have a band at the start/finish, and smaller singers t

throughout the race path.  Not only do the runners get into it, but the homeowners that live in the neighborhood do as well.  I can't even remember how many houses were having mini bonfires out in their front yard watching all of the commotion and excitement.  It truly is a community fun filled event.  Now, not only is it fun, it also gives back to charity.  The registration fee and donations of canned goods all go to the Second Harvest Food Bank, which helps people around the Greensboro area.  What's better than having a ball(pun intended) and giving back at the same time?

If you live in NC I definitely recommend checking out this event next Christmas!

Below I'm going to link their website and facebook page!  Check em out!

Lush Gifts!

Happy Saturday peeps!

Continuing with the Christmas spirit (cue the christmas music) I thought I'd share with y'all three great gifts, for three great ladies in your lives!

When I went off to college I went to the biggest city in my state, which means....bigger and better shopping!! With that being said, I discovered LUSH!  I fell in love with their fun bath accessories.  My favorite thing thus far are bath bombs.  If you don't know what they are I'll insert a link right here for you to see!  Long story short, you plop them into your tub they fizzle, turn your water a fun color, release a relaxing scent, and soften your skin.

This year I decided to get each my Mom, Cackie (what we call my grandma), and my boyfriends mom a Lush Christmas Set!  Below you will find the three I chose for them.

This set contains 4 bath bombs and 1 bath luxury oil.  Each item is a unique Christmas time name that makes it all the more fun to receive, not to mention the gorgeous packaging!  It rings in at about $40.

In this set you get 2 bath bombs and a bubble bar!  A bubble bar is what its name describes.  It's a bar that you crumble and turns your bath into a bubble sensation! It retails at $23.

This cute little set comes with 1 bath bomb and 1 bubble bar.  They are the cutest additions to make this gift so Christmasy.  The bath bomb is a little butter bear and the bubble bar is a santa hat!  Not to mention on the package is an actual jingle bell!  It costs around $15.

Women Stocking Stuffers

Hi babes, long time no talk right?

It's been super busy at the school I teach, and frankly I'm exhausted...bring on Christmas Break in t-minus 11 days WOOHOO!

Anyways, in the spirit of Christmas I thought I'd put together a mini gift guide to women stocking stuffers!  Below you will find a list of my favorite stocking stuffers :)

1. Chapstick/Lip Balm --> purchase my favorite brand at any location such as Walmart, Target, CVS, Walgreens, and Ulta!

Everyone can ALWAYS use lip balm...I may keep four different lip balms in all the necessary places.  Ya know, night stand, car, purse and my desk at school...what can I say? I'm obsessed.  I love EOS lip balm, favorite would be sweet mint, however they have a holiday vanilla bean which would be my suggestion for the festive holiday season!

2. Cozy Festive Socks -->Jcrew Christmas Socks

Here I've linked my favorite Christmas socks that I actually purchased for myself Black Friday Shopping.  I got the green color in case you're curious and I LOVE them! Super comfy and oh so festive.  Fun socks always make a great stocking stuffer for any one.

3. A $15 gift card!

I prefer Starbucks, Chickfila or Target.  However, you know your person.  Everyone loves having an extra few bucks to spend on their favorite food or treat.  you can't go wrong with a gift card to one of their favorite places, whether it be food or store.

4. Sheet Mask-->Sephora Sheet Masks

If you have a girl in mind that you're shopping for who enjoys skincare, I highly recommend these sheet masks from Sephora.  I love these and they are very inexpensive.  They are perfect for a night at home to pamper yourself.  Sephora has about 8 different sheet masks, each with a different focus.  For instance I love the Rose one because its focus is to moisturize your skin, which I need since I have dry skin.

5.  Travel Hand Lotion/Hand Sanitizer-->Vanilla Bean Noel

I'm obsessed with scents of each season from Bath and Body Works.  My all time favorite is Vanilla Bean Noel.  I go a little crazy, I get the candle, shower gel, lotion, and body spray! I smell like Christmas all December lol.  However, this perfect pair I've linked makes a wonderful stocking stuffer.  The mini lotion and hand sanitizer are perfect for on the go in your car, or pocketbook.  Vanilla Bean is currently sold old but Twisted Peppermint is still in stock and VB should be restocked soon!

Hope this stocking stuffer guide helped anyone in need!

Ode to Gossip Girl

Where do I even begin y'all?  I feel as if I owe a tribute to Gossip Girl, its writers, cast, the whole shabang.  This show literally makes me so happy, that I can't really explain it, but I'm going to do my best to try!

GG aired on September 17th 2007, the fall of my 8th grade year in middle school.  I remember the advertisements for the upcoming show and thinking, I'm going to watch that! Sure enough I did and became hooked.  GG is the only show I watched from start to finish on television.  I think that part of the reason I became so hooked is the same reason Dan Humphrey was Gossip Girl (SPOILER if you've never watched them all).  Their lifestyle was super fascinating and enticing to a small town southern girl like me.  No one around me knew what Bergdorfs was, heck, even people I know now don't know what Bergdorfs is.  Gossip Girl was like my own secret world where I pretended I was a character as well.
As the seasons continued I was always an avid watcher, however, during the last season I didn't get to follow it as well because that year I went of to college.  Now while the last season only has 10 episodes, it was around the 5th episode when I realized the final season was airing.  I quickly caught up and watch the remaining as they appeared on TV.  When it came to episode 10, the farewell of GG, I remember watching and I kid you not, getting teary eyed at the end.  I was so sad that it was over and I felt like part of me was missing in the days following.  How pathetic right?  But it's true.  I feel like we become so immersed in a show that we truly feel like we are apart of it when watching.

Ever since the end of GG, I find myself rewatching it.  Not just an episode or two, I'm talking season 1 - 6 start to finish.  I'm writing this post today because last night I finished it yet again, and I still get sad!!!! WTF IS WRONG WITH ME?  [[fyi, pretty sure that's the 7th full circle of me watching all the episodes]]  If you don't like GG then just disregard this post, or better yet, go watch it and maybe you'll like it!!
As my fav show always ended, you know you love me,
--Gossip Girl ;)

Target Finds!

Hi sweets!

So this Saturday I had to go to the Orthopedic Dr early in the am ugh.  However, after,  I made a lovely trip to Target to pick up that Garnier Micellar Water I've been raving about recently.  Of course once in Target, you're trapped with goodies everywhere, and you can't help but to peruse! At least, that's what always happens to me...can I get an amen??

Besides picking up a few necessities, deodorant, the garnier micellar water, and cotton rounds (which btw if you get the up and up brand get the 300 count, it's more for your money.  I used my math teacher skills to calculate the unit price lol!) I bought two decor/functional pieces for storage.

I picked up this drawer storage piece which you can buy here -->  vanity tray
I've decided to use it in my vanity drawer to hold my lipsticks and mascaras, fyi it fits perfectly in my drawer.

I also purchased this dip bowl -->bowl [similar one, could not find the gold online]
I needed something cute and decorative to store my rings in and I thought this would be perfect! And it is, it looks great on my vanity and holds my rings nicely!

SkinCare Routine/Products

Hello my loves, and happy least as happy as a Monday can get.  Can it be Friday already?

Below you will find my current skin care routine!  I've listed all the products and the step by step process.

2nd: I make sure the water is warm then splash my face two-three times to make sure it's good and damp and my pores are open.

3rd: I am currently washing my face with Biore charcoal cleanser.  I massage the product into my skin for about 1 minute before I rinse my face.  You can get the Biore face wash

4th: I rinse my face with cooler water to close my pores.

5th: I blot my face to dry it, I do not rub my face...I've read several articles where it says do not do that.

6th: I apply my moisturizer.  I am currently using First Aid Beauty, it keeps my skin very hydrated which is vital to my skincare routine because I am prone to dry skin and eczema  First Aid Beauty moisturizer purchase --> here

Also, while this is my skincare routine, I feel compelled to mention that eating a healthy diet and drinking plenty of water is also vital to your skincare routine as well.  Stay hydrated babies!

Fair Fun

Happy Sunday babes!!

Currently laying in the bed enjoying my lazy Sunday morning, and recuperating from yesterdays adventure.  Yesterday my man and I woke up at 6 to go to a cars and coffee event again...only for it to have been cancelled ugh :/ I got up early on my day off for nothing!!!  However, we did make it to the State Fair!

It was the first time I've been since I was a kid.  The food...SO WORTH the calories lol. I had bacon wrapped chicken, and fried oreos with powdered sugar, talk about yum! The walking...not so much fun!  By the time we left I had 18,000 steps, can you believe that?! I woke up this morning with sore swollen ankles, the Fair isn't a joke y'all!

We did ride two rides! The chairs and some other ride I have no idea the name, plz forgive! All in all it was an awesome time! However, be prepared to drop some cash, food and rides are expensive y'all!
