Easy Holiday Baking

It's officially Christmas Eve Eve, which means Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are looming!

Raise your hand if you're in your 20's, the age where you feel somewhat obligated to prepare a dish for your family gathering. (ME!!)  If you're needing a new dish to prepare, trying to figure out what you could possibly make, then look no further!  I'm going to reveal to you the easiest recipe that is guaranteed to be a scrumptious treat and have people going back for seconds!

This past Thanksgiving was the first time I contributed at my family gathering by preparing a dessert that was an absolute hit!  Everyone liked it so much that Cackie (what I call my grandma) even went out and bought the ingredients for me to make it for Christmas!

I picked this recipe out of a cook book I found at Cackie's house.  I chose it because in the title it said EASY, and I'm not one for extravagant cooking.  It's called Ellie's Easy Apple Crisp.

Ellie's Easy Apple Crisp

  • 2 (20 ounce) cans apple pie filling
  • Lemon juice
  • Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 (18 ounce) box yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 2 sticks of butter, melted
  • Vanilla Ice Cream

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Pour apple pie filling into sprayed 9 x 13-inch baking pan and squeeze a small amount of lemon juice over the apples.  Sprinkle generously with cinnamon.
  • Add cake mix over the apples and sprinkle with more cinnamon.   Spread the walnuts on top and pour melted butter over the entire mixture.
  • Bake for 1 hour

It serves around 16-18 people and I highly recommend getting vanilla ice cream or whipped cream to put on top of this dessert!

Happy Baking!
